STATE OF NEBRASKA SEAL OF BILITERACY - AWARDED BY NILA
The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given to students who have attained proficiency in English and one other language by one's high school graduation. Appearing on the transcript of the graduating senior, the Seal of Biliteracy is a statement of accomplishment for gaining competency in two or more languages and is viewed as an asset when applying for a job or for college admission.

The Seal of Biliteracy will be awarded to students in Nebraska who have mastered standard academic English, as well as a second language. Nebraska students wishing to receive the Seal must submit an application form to NILA and demonstrate that they have met both of the following requirements.
1. Student must be enrolled in three or four consecutive years or more of the same language or a heritage speaker of the language having taken two years of the same language;
2) Achieve proficiency in one or more languages other than English by fulfilling one of the following options:
A) Attain a score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement [AP] Language and Culture World Language exam.*
B) Attain a score of 4 or higher on an international Baccalaureate [IB] Examination in a language other than English.*
C) Attain a level of Intermediate-1 or higher on all four sections of the AAPPL test. (Form B)
D) Attain a score of 4 or higher on all three sections of the STAMP Test.
E) Or proficiency based test measuring reading, writing, and speaking, indicating an intermediate-mid level.
*Seal will be delivered at later date due to time required to process.
